About
I’m Steve Jennings. I was born in 1956 so I ain’t no spring chicken. I grew up on a farm and love working outside, but I have always hated working out. I wanted to see a pile of wood or a big stack of hay in the barn as a result of my effort. Go to the gym? Never. I hate gyms.
My aversion to exercise for the sake of exercise caught up with me after I moved to town from a home on 10 acres in the Blue Ridge mountains. Four years of sedentary living and bad eating made me weak and on the verge of having to take a medicine cabinet full of drugs. Until I hit my mid 50s, I was one of those people who could eat a lot and not suffer for it. Those days are gone.
Finally, I decided to make a change. I have a Masters degree in Animal Science where I had to become proficient in nutrition/metabolic physiology (yes, I had to learn it for humans, too). For nearly 40 years I have continued to follow research in the field . I knew what I had to do, but lacked the motivation, desire, and discipline to make wholesale changes to my life. So I took a different approach. I started with a couple of easy changes and focused on them until they became ingrained in my daily life. Then I made more small changes. For the first time in my life, I can sustain my healthy habits and continue to follow this plan on my journey to better health.
Nutrition, metabolic physiology, and exercise physiology are incredibly complex, with new discoveries constantly challenging our existing ideas on the best ways to care for ourselves. It is easy to become confused. But the good news is that there are some tried and true concepts and practices that everyone can employ to improve their health. The purpose of this blog is to cut through the chaos and help you make lasting changes that will give you a longer, healthier, happier life.
I’m still on this journey, and I want to share it with you. I hope you will join me.
